Position: Customer Service Associate
Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Customer Service Associates to join our team for the busy Fall season. With a proud legacy in the industry, Hicks offers a fast-paced, friendly environment where customers and team members alike love to grow.
Essential Functions
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers in loading their vehicles and within the store as needed.
- Safely and efficiently load items such as bagged goods, sod, plants, trees/shrubs, and other merchandise into customer vehicles.
- Use proper equipment and techniques to handle heavy or awkward items.
- Assist customers and team members with retrieving hard-to-reach or heavy items.
- Respond to requests from cashiers, sales, and merchandising staff for customer assistance.
- Retrieve and organize shopping carts and baskets from parking lots and store entrances.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Customer Pickup Area and other assigned areas.
- Remove trash from shopping carts, baskets, and garbage cans.
- Help maintain inventory and ensure the security of merchandise in the Customer Pickup Area.
- Check customer receipts following store policies and procedures.
- Stay alert to suspicious activity and help ensure a secure environment for customers and employees.
- Answer customer questions and direct them to the appropriate departments or team members.
- Participate in ongoing training, including product knowledge and safety procedures.
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 40 to 50lbs).
- Ability to push/pull wheeled carts of up to 400lbs consistently
- Ability to handle near constant physical activity, including standing, walking, reaching, bending lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, grasping
- Fine motor skills including peeling off labels, keyboarding, using computer mouse
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
- Attention to detail and a focus on safety and cleanliness.
- Prior retail or customer service experience is a plus.
- Ability to be trained on Hicks equipment (Forklift - for level 2 position only)
