The Regional Director, Store Operations is responsible for leading a high-performing team of District Managers to drive operational excellence, profitable sales growth, talent development, and exceptional customer experiences across an assigned region. This role provides leadership and accountability for the financial, operational, merchandising, and people performance of all stores within the region.
Reporting directly to the Zone Vice President, the Regional Director serves as the senior operational leader for the region, translating zone strategy into execution through a team of District Managers. This role partners closely with Human Resources, Asset Protection, Real Estate, Store Support Center teams, and other cross-functional partners to drive operational consistency, profitable growth, and talent development while ensuring Dollar Tree standards are consistently executed across the region.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Execution
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of District Managers responsible for achieving sales, profitability, operational, and customer service objectives.
- Execute zone priorities and strategic initiatives while ensuring consistent execution across all stores within the region.
- Drive consistent execution of company programs, operational initiatives, merchandising standards, and store processes.
- Conduct regular business reviews to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and implement action plans to improve results.
- Ensure stores maintain high standards of presentation, merchandising, inventory management, signage, and operational excellence.
- Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement throughout the region.
- Provide regular updates and business insights to the Zone Vice President regarding sales performance, operational opportunities, talent needs, and market conditions.
Financial Management & Business Performance
- Maintain full P&L accountability for the assigned region, including sales, payroll, expenses, shrink, and profitability.
- Analyze key business metrics and company reporting to identify trends, opportunities, and performance gaps.
- Develop and execute strategies to drive profitable sales growth while effectively managing expenses and operating costs.
- Ensure District Managers effectively utilize reporting and analytics to identify business outliers and improve store performance.
- Build financial acumen within the field leadership team through coaching, business reviews, and performance management.
Talent Development & Organizational Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and retain top talent at all levels within the region.
- Create succession plans and leadership development strategies to build a strong pipeline of future District Managers and Store Managers.
- Coach and mentor District Managers to strengthen leadership capabilities, operational expertise, and business acumen.
- Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development initiatives.
- Facilitate leadership meetings, town halls, onboarding programs, and development sessions as needed to support business objectives.
Merchandising & Customer Experience
- Partner with the Zone Vice President and Zone Operations Director to ensure effective execution of merchandising initiatives and sales-driving programs.
- Drive operational and merchandising consistency across all stores while maintaining Dollar Trees value, convenience, and discovery shopping experience.
- Ensure stores deliver a high level of customer service through strong leadership presence, associate engagement, and operational execution.
- Identify and communicate field opportunities that support sales growth, operational efficiencies, and customer satisfaction.
Asset Protection, Compliance & Inventory Integrity
- Foster a strong shrink-awareness culture and ensure effective execution of asset protection programs across the region.
- Partner with Asset Protection and Risk Management teams to reduce loss, improve compliance, and protect company assets.
- Maintain accountability for inventory integrity, inventory controls, and operational compliance standards.
- Ensure stores operate in compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Growth & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Support the Zone Vice President in executing strategic growth plans, market expansion initiatives, organizational development efforts, and operational priorities across the region.
- Partner with Real Estate teams to identify opportunities for new stores, relocations, expansions, and market growth.
- Collaborate with Store Support Center partners to ensure effective communication, issue resolution, and execution of company priorities.
- Serve as a key voice of the field by providing insights and recommendations that support continuous business improvement.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of progressive multi-unit retail leadership experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Proven track record of driving sales growth, operational excellence, and profitability across multiple locations.
- Demonstrated success leading, developing, and coaching field leadership teams.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L performance and business analytics.
- Experience leading through change and executing large-scale operational initiatives.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business systems and reporting tools.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Discount retail, grocery, convenience, big box, or specialty retail experience preferred.
- Experience managing large geographic territories and complex multi-unit operations.
- Proven ability to build high-performing teams and develop future leaders.
- Strong understanding of merchandising, inventory management, asset protection, and workforce planning.
Start Rate = $135,000-$180,000 based on experience plus bonus and equity.
