Purchasing Director

Position Summary:

The primary function of the Purchasing Director is to oversee the buying of materials and supplies for the company. This position includes analyzing and communicating the company's financial data, ensuring accurate and timely metrics that drive purchasing decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic purchasing plans.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts and monitor their performance.
  • Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities.
  • Monitor and analyze purchasing trends, forecast future needs, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Manage material flow to ensure inventory is maintained to support customer deliveries.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks.
  • Purchase and maintain adequate levels of inventory.
  • Develop product knowledge to assist customers with purchase.
  • Work with Sales Reps and Sales Mangers to develop a plan to help sales effort.
  • Ability to make sound purchasing decisions based on knowledge and experience.
  • Lead and develop a team of purchasing professionals, providing guidance and support.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; advanced degree preferred
  • Previous experience in purchasing, 7+ years
  • Ability to use metrics and data analysis to identify and resolve issues
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in analyzing data and identifying trends
  • Leadership and team management experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment 70% of the time.
  • Will frequently move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery.
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to travel when necessary for face-to-face customer interaction.

  • Must be able to problem solve and prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able to manage stress depending on deadlines and ongoing projects.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Must be able to receive and analyze information.
  • Must be able to quickly communicate solutions if problems occur.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of sound judgement and initiative.
