Produce Manager

Uncle Giuseppe's is currently looking for a Produce Manager for our newest gourmet location, Sayville, NY. The Produce Manager is responsible for the operations of the Produce Department within our stores. This individual will manage staff, hire, train and ensure that our standards of operating within the department are upheld on a daily basis.

Will also be responsible for creating displays, manage and track inventory and communicate with other department managers to collaborate those efforts. This position is responsible for upholding Uncle Gs high standards for food within a gourmet grocery store setting.

Responsibilities

• Manage employees and oversee the daily operations of the store, including hiring and training new employees.
• Meeting with suppliers to negotiate prices and terms of sale, such as delivery schedules or product return policies.
• Reviewing inventory levels and recommending purchase orders to replenish stocks of items that are running low.
• Training staff in store policies, procedures, and customer service techniques.
• Assisting in the development of new store concepts or designs to increase sales and improve customer satisfaction.
• Maintaining inventory levels of items in stock by ordering new items when necessary to meet customer demand.
• Overseeing the financial performance of the Produce Department by analyzing sales figures, conducting audits, and making recommendations for improvement.
• Coordinating with other departments in the company to ensure that all aspects of store operations are running smoothly.
• Other duties and functions as assigned.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience working in produce within a grocery store or gourmet food store.
• A minimum of 3 years of prior experience working as a Produce Manager.
• Certified Produce Professional (CPR) certification is a preferred.
• Must have excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with suppliers, sales representatives, customers and employees.
• Must have exceptional leadership skills to motivate a team, ensuring that they meet production goals.
• Exceptional organizational skills to assist with managing projects and tasks.
• Must be able to speak, read and understand the English language.
• Must have in depth knowledge of produce and thorough understanding of the productions process, quality standards, market value and pricing.

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
• There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
